Research-oriented public legislation key to achieving national priorities: Sadiq


ISLAMABAD, July 11 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday said effective and research-oriented public legislation was key to achieving national priorities and development.

Addressing the first meeting of the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) Board of Governors (BoG), he said, the goal of establishing PIPS was to assist and support parliamentarians, especially in legislative matters.

Emphasizing the importance of PIPS as a research-oriented legislative institution, he said, “Promotion of cooperation between national and provincial legislative bodies is of pivotal importance.”

He, further, directed to conduct a financial and performance audit of the PIPS by a third party to maintain transparency and improve performance of PIPS.

In the meeting, deliberations were also held regarding making the Speakers of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly permanent members of the BoG.

Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Speaker Sindh Assembly Awais Qadir Shah, Speaker Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Khan and Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, Speaker
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Chaudhry Latif Akbar and Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Nazir also participated in the meeting.

Members of Parliament Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Bilal Azhar Kayani, Wajiha Qamar, Khurshid Ahmed Junejo, Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, Zartaj Gul, and Syed Amin-ul-Haq were also present on the occasion.
